5 simple self-care strategies
The COVID-19 crisis has been a stressful time for all of us, and it’s likely that our lives will continue to be disrupted to some degree for the next few months at least. Learning to live with a sudden new reality can take its toll – from cabin fever to heightened anxiety – and it’s important to be kind to yourself and to do the things that leave you feeling energised and refreshed. Here are a few self-care strategies to help you look after your body and mind.
1. Have some fun. Be intentional about doing a fun activity every day – whether that’s playing board games with the kids, baking some scones, catching up on your latest TV show or playing your favourite Xbox game.
2. Do something relaxing. Give yourself a facial or pedicure, do some bird watching in the garden, try some of the mindfulness exercises on Headspace or spend some time cuddling your pet.
3. Go to bed early. While it’s tempting to stay up late when you don’t have to rush to the office the next morning, a lack of sleep can negatively impact your mood and stress levels – so aim to get about seven to nine hours of shut-eye a night.
4. Exercise. Try to do some form of exercise each day, whether that’s skipping, dancing, body-weight exercises or stretching.
5. Try new recipes. Why not take this time to hone your culinary skills and expand your healthy meal repertoire? Cooking is a great creative outlet – and your family is sure to appreciate your efforts!
